Mr. Ekasit Kunanantakul, Leader of the Puangchon Thai Party and President of the Employers’ Confederation of Thailand (ECOT), chaired a bilateral meeting between the Employers’ Confederation and the Labour Council to discuss roles, collaborative approaches, and joint labour-related solutions for both organizations. Also present at the meeting were:
along with representatives from the Labour Council who actively participated in the discussion.
Mr. Ekasit stated that Thailand’s labour landscape is undergoing significant changes across many dimensions — laws, regulations, policies, and matters related to the social security system — all of which impact both employers and employees. He emphasized that strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding between both councils is crucial for carrying out their missions effectively and responding to the rapidly changing labour environment.
He further highlighted the urgent need to address issues faced by over 20 million informal and self-employed workers, recognized as “the silent force that drives the Thai economy,” including freelancers, small business owners, vendors, taxi drivers, motorcycle riders, and farmers. These groups still lack access to sufficient welfare, healthcare rights, income protection, and continue facing severe debt and liquidity problems.
Mr. Ekasit stressed that the government — particularly the Ministry of Labour — should prioritize building a support system that protects and enhances the well-being of informal workers. This includes ensuring fair benefits, strengthening job security, and providing growth opportunities across all sectors.
As Leader of the Puangchon Thai Party, Mr. Ekasit clearly outlined the policy direction:
With all three pillars moving forward in alignment, Thailand can achieve a stronger economy and a better quality of life for all citizens.
