On 8 September 2026, the Employers’ Confederation of Thailand (ECOT), represented by Mr. Kornchai Kaewmahavong and Mr. Bowornsak Klaharn, participated in the workshop entitled “Silver Economy: Unlocking the Power of Older Persons towards Productive Aging,” organised by the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) at the Royal Maneeya Ballroom, Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel.

The workshop was held amid Thailand’s demographic transition towards an ageing society and aimed to raise awareness of the potential of older persons in the world of work. Key areas of focus included skills development, vocational training, qualification recognition, appropriate job design, and the creation of opportunities for older persons to remain active in the labour market while continuing to contribute economic and social value.

The programme featured a presentation on “Older Persons in Thailand’s World of Work: Current Situation, Potential and Opportunities” as well as a panel discussion entitled “Trainable, Employable, Sustainable: Transforming the Potential of Older Persons into a National Strength.” Representatives from various sectors exchanged views and recommendations on promoting employment opportunities for older persons, with key points consolidated for further policy development.

ECOT’s participation formed part of its ongoing efforts to monitor labour market trends and workforce development, helping employers prepare for changes in Thailand’s demographic structure. ECOT also supports approaches that enable workers of all ages to contribute their capabilities appropriately, strengthening the business sector and promoting the sustainable development of Thailand’s economy.
