ECOT and IOM Strengthen Cooperation on Migrant Labour Management, Supporting Business Growth and Labour Rights Protection
Samut Prakan — Mr. Eksit Kunanantakul, President of the Employers’ Confederation of Thailand (ECOT), together with Ms. Siriwan Romchattathong, Secretary-General, and ECOT advisors, welcomed Ms. Tanja Pacifico, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand, and her delegation on the occasion of her recent appointment and courtesy visit to ECOT. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of cooperation in strengthening migrant labour management in Thailand.
The meeting was held at the Lavender Room, 2nd Floor, Sookanan Building, Sricharoen Villa, Samut Prakan Province. The IOM delegation included Ms. Pukchanok Pattanatabud and Ms. Jitradee Singhakowin, National Officers. Representing ECOT were Mr. Ukrit Kanchanaket, Senior Advisor, Mr. Bowornsak Klahan, Advisor, and Mr. Kornchai Kaewmahavong, Advisor.
During the discussion, the ECOT President emphasized the important role of migrant workers as a vital part of Thailand’s economic development, while highlighting the need for an efficient and transparent labour management system aligned with international standards. Such a system will enable businesses to achieve sustainable growth while ensuring appropriate protection of workers’ rights and welfare.
Both parties exchanged views and explored potential areas of cooperation, including access to social security, labour rights protection, skills development, fostering mutual understanding between employers and employees, and promoting Responsible Business Conduct (RBC).
ECOT is committed to further strengthening its cooperation with IOM to promote responsible employment practices and effective migrant labour management, while maintaining a balance between business growth, labour rights protection, and economic and social development. This collaboration will also contribute to strengthening Thailand’s labour system and enhancing its efficiency and sustainability in the long term.
